For many of our community, a six-inch step determines whether a vistit to the doctor will require the assistance of several family members, or simply having a friend pick them up for a car ride. Because they have issues with mobility, many in our community are locked in their own homes. Come help your club fix that issue by building a ramp here in town. Bring your favorite tools, or just a readiness to be of service this Saturday morning. Contact the Committee chair for address and information. |

A Brief History of Rotary in Kingsville
The first record of an attempt to organize a Rotary Club in Kingsville was in a letter from Henry B. Baldwin of Corpus Christi to Charles H. Flato, Jr., dated January 15, 1918. Rumor has it that Mr. Flato, who had been appointed chairman of the organizing committee, found opposition to the project based on a concern that such a club would conflict with the Kleberg County Commercial Club (now the Chamber of Commerce). Considerable correspondence followed thereafter culminating in a telegram from Mr. Flato to Mr. Baldwin, which stated, "Regret very much that it is not possible to join you in your good work in Rotary at this time."
Not giving up on the idea of a club in Kingsville, a new committee consisting of people not connected with previous efforts was appointed. They met March 6, 1923, in the Kleberg Bank (now the Municipal Building) in the office of Dr. J. V. Chandler. In attendance were Mell Nuckols, J. D. Cage, Henry Hutto, Dick Moss, John Cypher, and Chandler. Two months later, the first meeting of the Kingsville Rotary Club was held May 26, 1923, at 2 p.m. in the Flato Opera House.
Organized to bring local professionals and community leaders together for the betterment of our world, we are proud to continue that work to this day.

Completed Rotary Leadership Training, Part 1 & 2, already? Still sheltered-in-place? Still ready to do something constructive, but not ready to leave the couch? Still ready for more Rotary? Then join leaders from around Texas to learn more about how Rotary works for our community and our world. It's a must have for anyone interested in doing more with our great club. Because the first offering was so well received, we will be hosting another Rotarian Leadership Institute over two weeks: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30pm, held July 14, 16, 21, and 23, through the Zoom meeting application. This one day course is now in 2-hour sessions in your home, and at half the usual price! Follow the link and register now to take advantage of this on-line offering to get your RLI Part 3 Certificate. |
